And just like that, you turned 10 months old. You can't do math yet, but that's 2 months away from 12 months old. And in case you didn't know, Grant - 12 months equals one year. And one year equals LOTS of tears from your mama (and probably your daddy, although he'd never tell you that). Because I say it every single post, I feel the need to say it again: I can't believe how quickly time is flying! You are growing every single day, and there's nothing that I can do to stop it. Part of me (ok, 99.5% of me) loves watching grow and learn new things. The other .5% of me hates it and wishes I could just keep you this small forever. Kindergarten? Psh - who needs it? I just want to carry you around on my hip everywhere we go. Who cares if you're a 17 year old boy still taking a bottle running around saying "DaDa"? Surely you won't get made fun of. I think you'll adjust to society quite well.
Kidding. Sort of. In all reality, watching you these last 10 months has been the biggest joy of my life. We had your 9 month checkup on September 10th. You only got one shot - woo hoo! You took it like a champ - mama did not. We went for ice cream after - more so for me than you. You only weigh 22.5lbs. To most people, that seems so heavy. But considering you were almost a 10lb baby at birth, and you've been sitting around the 20lb mark for quite a few months, I was shocked that was all you weighed. I'm attributing it to you constantly being on the go. You were in the 87th percentile for head circumference, 50something percentile for weight, and 16th percentile in height. Definitely a Davis baby - big head, short legs (kidding, Poppa).
The weeks around your doctors appointment were pretty rough - a stomach bug took out our whole family (I'm talking aunts, uncles, grandparents, cousins, AND mama and daddy). You had a nasty cold. We were so worried you were going to get the stomach bug as well. Luckily, you managed to escape with only one little bout of stomach sickness. We missed church that week, since mama and daddy were still not feeling too hot. Never would I have thought missing church would be such a blessing - almost every baby in your nursery came down with Hand, Foot, and Mouth. All of your nursery directors and teachers worked so hard to keep it contained and all you babies safe (which I am so incredibly thankful for - we love our North Metro nursery). You were one of the very few who escaped! I said that to say - a couple weeks of month 10 were quite sickly, but thankfully we're all back to being 100% healthy!
So sweet, even when you're sick.
You went to your first football game - we went to see Daddy's Grayson Rams play at Gainesville. Daddy has been wanting to go see a high school football game for some time, and it worked out that his alma mater was playing just 20 minutes from our house, so we went with Mimi & G to go watch the Rams. You had no clue what was happening, but were highly entertained by all of the action. That night, I felt like we trained you like a Pavlov dog. I had puffs in my hand (which are still SO good at keeping you entertained) - every time you wanted one, you reached down from the bleacher above, hugged my neck, and I gave you a puff. It was the most stinkin' sweet thing ever. I think I let you eat a whole can of puffs because I was enjoying it so much :)
We've actually spent a lot of time watching football (start 'em young, raise 'em right). We hung out with Uncle Coco & Aunt Katie (ahem, Aunt Kitty ;D) and the kiddo's eating ribs and watching football at their new house - you love ribs and you love corn.
all of you boy cousins
love watching you two interact!
You spent a couple of nights with Mema and Poppa (we blame Mema for starting the stomach bug epidemic - don't tell her I told you that. Kidding, Mema - we don't blame you at all). Pepa and Mawmaw came to see you while you were there, AND you took a trip to Bruster's and got your own ice cream cone. Funny story - Poppa sent me a picture of you eating an ice cream cone. I went all Mama Bear and said "GRANT HAS HIS OWN ICE CREAM CONE"?!? Mema responds with some story about how babies who aren't tall enough to see over the counter at Bruster's get a free cone - I'm thinking, yeah right - she's just spoiling Grant. THIS IS A TRUE STORY! I'm not sure why a baby needs a whole ice cream cone, but you don't get them on a regular basis, and you seemed to enjoy it. Who am I to steal that joy from you and your grandparents? :)
That same weekend, Aunt Addie and Amelia were home from Indianapolis. We spent some time with them and Mimi at Coco & Kitty's (I'm determined to make that stick) house. We enjoyed wings and football (are you seeing a theme here?), as well as a rousing game of clue. Side note - I hope your daddy teaches you to play board games. I'm a cheater when it comes to games (if ya ain't cheatin', you ain't tryin'). and would love for you to be an upstanding game player - not like your mama. On Sunday, Mama Dean & Daddy Jack were passing through town, so we went to Grayson to see them. Baby boy - you are so, so loved by all of your family. I hope you always feel that love - it's a great thing that so many kiddos don't get to experience like you do.
I think Aunt Katie or Aunt Addie may have gotten a better picture. This was the best I had :/
Saturday morning breakfasts are so much fun!
You are currently into EVERYTHING, and are the fastest crawler I think I've ever seen. You could probably crawl a mile faster than I could run it (although that's not saying too much - your mama is extremely slow). We could give you all of the toys in the world, and you'd still want to play with Cooper's toys and food bowl. I would love to know what makes dog food so appetizing to babies. We bought you a walker a few weeks ago - you don't walk in it. You think it's like your bouncer and just bounce and bounce. You do like to pull up on it though, and push it around. I can't keep you in one area for too long. You get so bored with things so quickly, so we're constantly putting you in new places. Wanna know a funny story? For some reason, you hate playing in your pack n play. So when I work out, we go upstairs. I stick you in mama and daddy's bath tub with no water and lots of toys, and you are perfectly content. It keeps you contained for now...now we just pray you don't learn how to turn on the water.
FroYo date! You only had a bite of mama's!
chasing after Coop, per usual
such a silly boy
shameless family selfie
You love hearing yourself talk (and quite frankly, I do too). You're saying Dada all.the.time. I'm talking you wake up saying "dada? dada?" "no baby, he's not here. Say Mama, Mama." "..." Nothing. You do move your lips like you're saying mama, and have for quite some time. You just refuse to actually say the word. You love waving, and your chunky little arm looks so cute just flopping in the air as you do it. "Wheeeeeere's Grant?" is still your favorite game. You could play all day long. And once you're done, you always start clapping. You can't wait to hear "YAYYYY Grant!" Bath time is still a fun time for you, but you hate putting on your PJ's after. I'm talking you'd think we were hanging you up by your toenails after bath time. You still drink 3 8oz bottles each day, and eat between 3 & 4 little meals each day. This month, we'll transition to eating just 3 bigger meals each day. You're doing so good at drinking from your sippy cup. We just give you water while you eat. You think it's the funniest thing to throw it off your high chair - mama does not think it's so funny, and just lets it stay on the floor. We don't play that game in the Garner house. I keep waiting for the day that clicks in your little brain. You go to bed between 7&7:30, and sleep solid until I wake you up at 5:45am. If we don't have to go to work and day care, you usually sleep until at least 7, but usually 7:45.
grainy iPhone pictures, but so so sweet
have you ever seen a cuter baby post-morning bottle?
Wheeeeere's Grant?
FYI - I knew your fingers would get smashed
Meanest Mama EVER
Not loving your walker, eh?
lest you think all he does is smile.
This was probably after we yelled "No No", and got both of their attention.
Be still my heart.
I watched you play with your body wash. I watched you try to open it. I said "there's no way he'll open it". Then you did, and proceeded to have a massive bubble bath. Well worth the $5 of body wash wasted.
Your daddy caught you giving me the side eye.
who needs pants anyway?
we ordered your first kid's meal at Chili's this month!
Back in the spring, I made you a swing with the help of your daddy and MawMaw. This weekend, Daddy finally built the frame for it. We put off building the frame because 1. we've been so crazy busy, and 2. it's been so stinking hot. Now that the weather is cooling off, you have a fun place to swing. You love it!
Sweet Buddy Boy - you're still my favorite. I love early mornings spent snuggling with your sleepy self. I love the way your tiny fingers wrap around mine while I feed you your bottle, and the way you fit so perfectly in the crook of my arm. Your bright eyes make my heart so incredibly happy, and your inquisitive little spirit keeps me on my toes. Please don't ever doubt how much your daddy and I love you. But most importantly, please don't ever forget how much your Creator loves you. Isn't it so crazy to think he knew I was going to be your mama looooooong before I even thought about having a baby? He knows every.single.tiny.hair on your sorta-bald head. I am so incredibly grateful that He entrusted your daddy and I to be your parents. We are trying so hard to raise you to be a polite, encouraging, and loving little boy. But more than that, our number one goal is to point you to Jesus and pray that you know His love for you. We love you, handsome boy. Here's to month 10!
slay me now. loving those big blue eyes.
