Week 27...is really late

Sorry, sorry, sorry! My down time at work has been filled with....work. And my downtime at home has been non-existent trying to get ready for this move! Plus, I packed up the computers at home, so I didn't have access to blog. I guess I could have gone right on down to the public library, but ain't nobody got time for that. Plus, I don't own a library card. That's neither here nor there. The blog post is happening today - get excited.

We're at 27 weeks now...and 2 days. As I mentioned, our past week has been PRETTY busy. In the evenings after work, Bailey and I have been packing our house - who knew two people could accumulate so much junk in a little 3 BR townhouse!?

Last Thursday, mama and I went to the MOP's consignment sale at our church, and scored some pretty good finds. I was able to convince mama to buy a pack and play, even though she seems to think one won't be needed because Grant will be held every minute we're there. We also found some pretty good deals on some clothes - including the carhartt overalls Bailey wanted :) woo hoo! Grant now has 3 boxes to be moved to the new house and we haven't even had our first shower yet! The boy is loved. I tried to convince Bailey we needed this outfit...he wasn't amused.

Friday and Saturday I was in Warner Robins with mama and the ladies from their church for a Priscilla Shirer conference. I've never heard her speak live, but she was amazing! Bailey spent Saturday with his dad and brother at a speaking event called All Pro Dads where he got to hear from people like Jeff Foxworthy and Mark Richt. It was a good weekend for us both :) Sunday was spent painting the new house - I couldn't stay for long, but dropped off pizza for the guys (and couple of girls). All of that help is GREATLY appreciated!

There's not much else going on in our little world this week besides packing and moving. Thankful for a long weekend and time to at least attempt to get settled in before we leave for vacation on the 6th! Woo Hoo! It'll be long overdue and well-deserved...at least for Bailey who has busted his tail making sure our house is ready for our little family to move into.

Let's see - this blog is about a baby after all, so maybe I should update you on baby/pregnancy happenings, Hmm..I have two doctor's appointments coming up - one on Friday for my glucose test, and one at the high risk doctor on Tuesday to figure out why this baby is so big! We'll find out soon enough! Hormones are still getting the best of me some days - yesterday I cried because Bailey accidentally took my lunch to work. I may have yelled at him through the tears asking why he couldn't have taken a lean cuisine or leftover pizza and had to take MY pasta. I know, it's crazy. I know I'm crazy while it's happening, I just can't seem to stop. ( no worries, an apology quickly followed).

Ignore the fat ankles and fat finger in the camera...

How many weeks: 27 - Grant is the size of a cucumber (15 inches and 2.2 lbs). Apparently he recognizes my voice now, which probably means I should be nice again :)

Total weight gain/loss: probably more than i'll look forward to seeing on the scale on Friday.

Maternity clothes: Absolutely.

Sleep: This last week has been nothing but solid sleep for me. I don't even wake up for bathroom breaks in the middle of the night - it's amazing.

Best moment this week: Sleeping through the night, obviously!

Food cravings: Scuppernongs, still. Bailey has a huge vine at work and has promised me some this week :)

Food aversions: nothing much!

Gender: I hope he continues to stay a boy!!

Labor signs: Negative, ghost rider

Pregnancy symptoms: Swelling and pretty bad headaches.

What I miss: normal sized feet

What I am looking forward to: Starting our baby boy's nursery in the coming weeks :)

Milestones: No huge milestones this week :)

the week we bought a house...week 26

Not only are we a mama and daddy to be, we are now officially homeowners! EEK!

Bailey and I closed on our new house in Buford on Friday. Y’all – I can’t WAIT to move in. We’ve been to the house 3 times since Friday…whoops. I may have spent 10 minutes in the nursery yesterday telling Bailey where I wanted all of the furniture (which we haven’t even purchased yet). I can’t wait to make this house a home and start making memories with our little family J

Unfortunately, we can’t move until we pack. I’ve only ever moved to/from apartments and dorms. Keep in mind all of those places came furnished, and most of my things were contained to one room. Who knew you could accumulate so much crap (sorry, mama) in a 3 bedroom townhome? I’ve spent a cumulative 12+ hours packing and FINALLY finished the office and guest bedroom! Woo hoo!! I’m hoping by starting with the worst room, our office (which was the catch-all room), that mayyyybe the worst part is over? A girl can dream right? This is what the office looked like mid-pack...a disaster:

Last week was fairly average, minus the whole closing on the house thing. I did make our appointment for the hospital tour and pre-registered! Wednesday was my birthday (in case I haven't made that evident in the last two posts :))  My coworkers took me to lunch, AND  gave me sour gummy worms and Boar's Head pickles. I was in HEAVEN. I wanted to tear into the pickles at 9am, but figured that was entirely too pregnant cliché. So I held off until 10:30 :)

We went to supper for my birthday on Wednesday night, and then again with my parents on Friday night. Mama brought lots of goodies – it was like Christmas in August. I got a new pair of boots for my birthday with an elastic band in the back (to fit my swollen ankles – ha), and then she brought me some new maternity clothes and toms. I’m not normally a toms kinda girl, but I know how comfy they can be, and will definitely need comfort in the fall J Grant is the one who really lucked out though – so many onesies, and all with his cute little monogram. This baby isn’t even here yet, nor have we had a shower for him, and he already has two boxes labeled “nursery” for the move! I’m thankful we move BEFORE we have a shower!

Saturday we packed some more – huge shout out to my handsome husband who climbed up and down the stairs all morning moving boxes from our landing to the garage. I couldn’t stand the clutter in the landing, and it made me feel like I wasn’t getting anything done! He worked all morning, then came home and did the heavy lifting for me. I joke about how great it is to move while being pregnant (so that I don’t have to do the work), but I truly am grateful for all that he does around the house J After a long day of packing, we went to the laser show with our life group class from church. There are 3 of us who are currently pregnant, and all due within a 6 week time span. While everyone else climbed the mountain, we obviously chose to stay on the lawn and “guard” all of our things J

After church on Sunday (have I mentioned how much I’m loving these 8th grade girls?), Bailey and I attempted to find a glider for Grant’s room. Y’all – this is hard. I thought I found one I liked at Babies R Us, but that’s the problem…I only like it, not love it. SO – that being said, if you know of anywhere I should look, let me know! I’ve looked at Haverty’s, Ashley, Ethan Allen, Rooms to Go, Bassett, and La-z-boy. I’m over it. We also went to the house to measure for the painters to come next weekend. Bailey and I are forcing ourselves to choose a paint color tonight, and I've been trying to figure out how much paint we need to buy. This was my morning today:

Nothing too very exciting this week -  church consignment sale shopping with my mama on Thursday night, and then heading to Warner Robins on Friday and Saturday for a Priscilla Shirer conference. J

How far along: 26 weeks

How big is baby?: An eggplant (9.2 inches, 2 lbs) – Grant’s eyes are opening!

Bailey wanted to see it on a measuring tape...who am I to deny that? :)

Total weight gain/loss: Not too bad :)

Maternity clothes: There’s nothing better
J

Sleep: If I didn’t wake myself up with dead-arm and potty breaks, I’d be sleeping like a champ.

Best moment this week: Seeing Bailey’s excitement as he felt Grant move on Friday.

Food cravings: Scuppernongs…which I didn’t know I was craving until mama brought some from Perry this weekend – thanks, Pepa and Mawmaw. They’ve always been my favorite, so I don’t know if that counts as a craving or not!

Food aversions: mmm…not a whole lot right now. I am starting to just not love food (I know, weird, right?). Nothing sounds great to me, and I’m beginning to get nauseous when I eat.

Gender: I hope he continues to stay a boy
J

Labor signs: Negative, ghost rider

Pregnancy symptoms: Swelling and pretty bad headaches. Thank goodness I now have medicine for my headaches. Unfortunately, said medicine makes me sleepy…which I didn’t realize until I had already taken one on Friday. Whoops!

What I miss: a full night's sleep. I know, I know - I better get used to it.

What I am looking forward to: Starting our baby boy's nursery in the coming weeks :)

Milestones: No huge milestones this week :)

25 weeks

It's officially my birthday week...but let's be real. My birthday is celebrated until May 1st. I at least give Bailey one month out of the year to celebrate his birthday. From May 1 - May 31, Bailey celebrates all he wants. The other 11 months? Different story. It's not uncommon for me to ask for something in January and say "but my birthday is coming up..."

Anyway - enough about me. W'e're having a baby. His name is Grant. And apparently he's huge. I had the appointment on Friday to check on his heart. SO much information came from this appointment. Here's a little secret - when you don't drink sugary drinks prior to your appointment, apparently they have a habit of cooperating with the ultrasound tech :) She told me he was still measuring about 8 days ahead of my due date, which she says every week, so I sort of just took it as normal since it's not the first time I've heard it. But y'all - the craziest thing happened while I was laying on that table. Towards the end, Grant started to stretch and move a little bit. The first few times, I watched him move on the screen, but couldn't feel a thing. Then I watched him punch my belly button with his little balled up fists, and felt it as it was happening. It was the craziest thing, and I loved it!

After the ultrasound, I met with my doctor, who took more measurements. To be honest with you, I'm not sure what he measured, but the measurement is supposed to coordinate with how far along I am (i.e. 25 weeks, whatever he measure should be about 25 cm) - mine was 29. Which means Grant is huge. And also means I have to go to a high-risk ultrasound specialist in a few weeks because he's growing so large. EEK. I have 3 appointments scheduled during the next 5 weeks, 1 being the glucose test (again). We received info from the doctor today on setting up a hospital tour, birthing classes, and lots more information overload. THIS. IS. HAPPENING. And here's a selfish praise - I've been getting pretty bad headaches lately. They're a combination of the pinched nerve that I've had for a couple of years, and I think a little bit of just plain pregnancy headaches. But they knock. me. out. There have been days I come home from work, grab a glass of water and an ice pack, and fall asleep at 6:30, because I haven't been able to take anything. This week, the doctor prescribed me pills for my headaches. HALLELUYER! Granted, I still don't want to take them at the first sign of a little headache, but I'm so thankful to have something to turn to when the headaches become unbearable.

Thoughts that ran through my mind  while at the doctor's office on Friday:
1. HOW IS THIS THING COMING OUT OF MY BODY?
2. If his feet are pointing up, and his head is pointing down, how does he not have the ultimate brain rush of all time?
3. That baby has my nose for sure. I hope his head grows bigger so the nose doesn't look so big.
4. (as a follow up)...nope. I don't need that head to grow any bigger until he is out of my body.
5. This thing has a face. He's real. He's coming whether I am ready for him or not.

I'm not normally a fan on ultrasound pictures. I can never read them, and lets be honest - most people don't care to see pictures of your baby, but especially not one that's still in your belly. BUT - he has a face! EEK!

I know I keep saying "this is real, I can't believe this is happening, yadda yadda yadda". But until this week, it's still sort of seemed surreal. I asked my sister-in-law, Katie, where she got the "lovies" for her kids - the little kid size blankets that look like cute little animals. She sent me the link to them, and I may have gotten teary eyed sitting at my desk. That moment is when it became so incredibly real. You'd think it would be when the doctor confirmed we were pregnant, when we found out the gender, or when I felt him move for the first time. Nope. It was picking out a stupid blanket. So now I just keep repeating how real it is, so that maybe, eventually, I'll believe it before I waddle into the hospital to have a baby. Of my own. That I'll keep forever. Or until I get tired of him (just kidding).

Besides the doctor appointment on Friday, last week was pretty uneventful (per usual). Friday night I FINALLY started packing. Y'all. we packed for four hours on Friday night and I still haven't fully packed one room yet. I started cleaning out our office closet and threw away 4 garbage bags of junk. I don't want to move anything we haven't used or aren't planning on using in the new house. But then I get completely ADD. I start packing up picture frames in one room, and feel the need to pack ALL the picture frames in the house. I start taking things off of the wall in one room, and then take down the things on ALL the walls. Needless to say, our house looks like a tornado hit it. And then came back and hit it again. Saturday morning we packed for a little while, and then Cooper had a vet appointment. Poor thing had an allergic reaction to something and has scratched himself raw. A chunk of change later, he's got a steroid shot, antibiotics, and Benadryll. Such a druggie puppy. :) On Saturday night we went to South City Kitchen for a birthday dinner with some of my favorites - it was DELISH! We got home about 9, at which point I was exhausted beyond belief and crashed :D After church yesterday, Bailey and I went back to babies r us to try to decide on a crib. I think we've finally made a decision - WHEW. And I know you're not supposed to buy your own baby clothes, since you inevitably get tons from other people. But I couldn't help it. LOOK at this! How precious :)

So that's about all of the baby news we have for this week - it's a lot! In other news...we found out on Thursday that our loan was officially approved, and we are all set to close on our house this Friday at 2:00pm. Bailey and I are both off that day, and plan on touring daycares on the same day. Who knew that you had to start looking at daycares 6 months in advance? I've called 2 that already have a waiting list for February! Who knew?!

Once we close on the house, we have 2 weeks to paint the entire interior, get carpets cleaned, and deep clean the kitchens and bathroom. Normally Bailey and I would take on the task ourselves (with the help of our friends and family, of course :D), but since there's not much I can do in the way of paint and cleaning fumes, we're hiring people. I just feel so silly hiring painters and maids (not knocking those who do hire people to paint and clean - I just hate spending my money that way :D) BUT we have to save our family and friend's energy for MOVING DAY on Labor Day weekend:)

I forgot to take my weekly bumpdate picture - this rain has got me all sorts of messed up! I'll upload that later tonight :)
update - here's the picture - Bailey tells me I don't smile normally in these pictures. This was my attempt to make him happy :)
Barefoot and pregnant...typical

How far along: 25 weeks
How big is baby?: An eggplant (9 inches, 1.7 lbs) - Grant's lungs are continuing to form and his nostrils (however large they may be) are beginning to open!

Total weight gain/loss: Not too bad :)

Maternity clothes: all the dang time!

Sleep: Eh, I'm tired so I fall asleep quickly! But my arms fall asleep just as quick. So between that and bathroom breaks, I'm not sleeping as soundly as I like. and we all know how much I enjoy my sleep :)

Best moment this week: Feeling Grant move as I watched him move on the ultrasound!

Food cravings: Deli style pickles. YUM. and Nutella. But because I'm trying SO hard to watch my sugar intake, the Nutella indulgences have been kept to a minimum

Food aversions: Still chicken, but not as bad as before.

Gender: He's still a boy..

Labor signs: Negative, ghost rider

Pregnancy symptoms: Swelling and pretty bad headaches. The leg cramps still randomly happen in the middle of the night, but nothing horrible!

What I miss: a full night's sleep. I know, I know - I better get used to it.

What I am looking forward to: Starting our baby boy's nursery in the coming weeks :)

Milestones: No huge milestones this week :)

IT'S MY BIRTHDAY MONTH (or week 24 :D)

16 weeks left - or something like that :) See, I can start off this post without the usual "I can't believe it's week 24 already". P.S. sorry this is a day late...I forgot to take a picture yesterday morning, so I had to wait until Bailey got home to take it. and then I was just too busy (ok, tired) to post anything!

This week has been pretty standard, per usual. Just counting down the days until we close on the house! I spent the early part of this week editing our registries - so.much.stuff. :) We finally narrowed down our registries to Babies R Us, Target, and Buy Buy Baby. After making sure we didn't have a ton of duplicates, I think we're ready to go! I'm sure there are things on there that may seem silly to others, and other things that aren't on there that people think we should have - we'll learn as we go :) We still haven't narrowed down which crib we want, so don't think we're asking our friends and family to purchase 3 cribs. Those are just on there so that Bailey and I can remember which cribs we liked!!

Y'all. I learned last week that I'm going to tone down my temper prior to baby Grant getting here. Bailey and I took Cooper to the dog park last weekend with our friends Elizabeth & Stephen and their goldendoodle, Norman. Long story (not so) short, this man kept throwing the tennis ball to Cooper, and Cooper would bring the ball back to me. The guy was getting frustrated because Coop wouldn't bring the ball back to him. He kept calling him stupid, and even threw the tennis ball AT Cooper. He kept calling him Oreo, which I thought was strange, but I just assumed because he didn't know his name, he had made one up. After he pegged Coop with the ball, I turned around and looked at Bailey and said "if you don't set that guy straight, I'm going to go NUTS". So Bailey walked over to the guy and tried to make small talk with him, and kept calling Cooper by his name. Come to find out, the guy thought Cooper was his dog....Oreo. How does one confuse their dog with someone else's?!? Afterwards, it was pretty funny and made me laugh. But while it was happening, I was about to go all mama bear on him!!

This weekend Bailey and I headed south to Perry for my cousin's wedding. I directed her sister's wedding back in November, and was able to direct her wedding this weekend. It was a beautiful wedding, and we were SO thankful that the rain held off. Bailey and I enjoyed getting to spend time with Pepa and Mawmaw - we had to fight our way back to #1 grandchild status :)

We have another doctor's appointment on Friday. Last time we were there, Grant was a wiggle worm, thanks to the sweet tea I drank (whoops), so they weren't able to get a good measurement of his heart. That's the main purpose of this ultrasound appointment - make sure he's heart healthy :)

Other than that, we don't have much going on. Just counting down the days until my BIRTHDAY! 26 looks like it's going to be shaping up to be a great year!

(it's not the normal side picture, but Coop REALLY wanted in this one, and who am I to say no?)

How far along: 24 weeks
How big is baby?: An ear of corn - which I love. 8.5 inches, 1.5 lbs. Grant's supposed to be gaining 6 ounces per week! His ears can hear more, and his face is almost completely formed.  His hair doesn't have any pigment yet, so I still don't know if my sweet baby will be a ginger...

Total weight gain/loss: Don't know yet :) Find out on Friday!

Maternity clothes: all the dang time!

Sleep: Eh, I'm tired so I fall asleep quickly! But my arms fall asleep just as quick. So between that and bathroom breaks, I'm not sleeping as soundly as I like. and we all know how much I enjoy my sleep :)

Best moment this week: Stronger baby movement - I really have loved figuring out the patterns of when Grant moves, and figuring out what is gas and what is his actual movements ;)

Food cravings: Fruit still. :) I really REALLY wanted a sno-biz snow cone this weekend, and Bailey drove me all over Warner Robins looking for it. unfortunately, ALL of them were closed. Sad day.

What I am looking forward to: Ultrasound this week - it's always fun seeing the bay- bay!

Milestones: No huge milestones this week :)
