{month 13}

We’re one month into your second year, sweet boy! Time is flying, and I can’t hardly believe it. You are so, so much fun right now (or you would be, if you weren’t teething).

After the dust settled from your first birthday, we rested for ohhhh 12 hours or so before we began celebrating Thanksgiving! On the Sunday after your birthday, we spent the afternoon celebrating Thanksgiving with the Garner side of the family. You helped mommy make mashed potatoes, and were SUCH a big helper! On the actual Thanksgiving day, we celebrated at Mimi & G’s house. Mama Dean & Daddy Jack came to town, along with Aunt Addie, Uncle Rusty, and Amelia. We had a great weekend with them celebrating Thanksgiving, Black Friday shopping, and visiting Santa Clause! You LOVED Santa. I was so worried leading up to Santa – you hadn’t taken a good nap that day and you were in the throes of cutting your molars. You weren’t exactly pleasant to be around. We waited in line, and all you wanted to do was get down and crawl around. Our turn to see Santa came, and I got so nervous. Who would think that your MAMA would get butterflies when you sat down to see Santa? Daddy sat you in Santa’s lap and you loved it. You kept looking at Santa and laughing – it was precious! You told him you wanted books, puzzles, and diapers. I love that you’re such a practical child ;)

I can't get over this picture. All of the love for Santa!

What is a trip to Phipps without a family selfie?

Love all of you sweet babies in your football gear!

I mean, come onnnnnn - look at that cuteness.

The beginning of December brought your one year doctor’s appointment. You were a champ! Again, all you wanted to do was crawl, so it was a feat for me to keep you off the dirty floor. You had a couple of shots, and were not of fan of those. I think you cried more after these shots than you ever have. We came home and snuggled all afternoon.

December was the month of sickness for you. The first week, you weren’t feeling too hot – I attributed it to cutting those molars. You ran a low-grade fever for about a week, and were just super clingy. The next week it got even worse. You had your first official vomit (what a milestone to mark, huh?). You and I were snuggling on the couch before bed (see, I told you that you were sick – you NEVER snuggle long). Your daddy walked in the door, and you sat up to grin at him. As you do, you projectile vomited all over me, you, the couch, and Doug the Dog. I don’t know who was more upset – me or you. We got you cleaned up and we snuggled you to sleep on the couch. About an hour after putting you to bed, I checked on you – poor thing – you were laying in your own vomit. That terrified me – what if you had choked yourself? So I brought you to bed with us so that I could keep a better eye on you. We stayed home the next day to make sure you stayed well. The NEXT week, you woke up one night screaming around 8:00. Nothing your daddy or I could do calmed you down (and believe me, after all of your newborn gassy issues, we’ve got quite an arsenal of things to calm you down). You were flailing around, throwing your head back, and screaming so loudly. We finally put you in the car around 9:30pm and just drove around until you fell asleep. You kept coughing though, and waking yourself up. Of course, you cried when you woke up. We stopped and got baby cough syrup (who knew there was such a thing). Once we got home, we gave you a dose, along with a warm bottle of milk. You finally fell asleep around 11:30 and slept through the night. I was so worried about you that night, and contemplated a late night emergency room.

Little sickling at daycare. Thankful for teachers who love on you until mama can get there to pick you up.

I don't think I've worn you since you were 9 months old. But when that's the only thing keeping you happy? Mama does what mama's got to do.

Throughout the month, you spent time with all sorts of family members. You spent the night with Mema and Poppa, visited Pop, Pepa and MawMaw, and spent time with Uncle Coco & Aunt Katie. The weekend before Christmas, Daddy took you to Alabama for the Sneed family Christmas. I had to stay home and work, and missed you both like crazy! From pictures and stories, it looks like you had a fabulous time (minus those stinking teeth!).

This month, you’ve hurdled so many fun milestones. You’re still saying about the same amount of words, but now you say those words with meaning (instead of just babbling them because you can). You’ve started walking, but don’t do it nearly enough, since you know you can get their faster by crawling. There isn’t much you don’t like in the way of food. You’ve got 11 teeth right now, and are currently working on your 12th (woo hoo for that last molar!). I’m fairly confident you’ve eaten your weight in cheerios, and that your daddy should look into purchasing stock in General Mills.

 I constantly go between wanting you to stay my little baby forever, and being excited about all that you will do in this lifetime. It's a new adventure watching you every single day. I love you sweet boy, more than you could ever imagine.
